10 Best Crypto Exchanges in Brazil

Best crypto exchanges in Brazil for 2026: who charges least in reais for Bitcoin and who has filed with the central bank.

Brazil is bringing crypto platforms under its central bank. Every company that buys, sells or holds crypto for Brazilians now needs the Banco Central do Brasil's authorisation, and those already open must apply or shut. Some smaller platforms, such as Bitso and NovaDAX, have chosen to close. Paying in reais is easy almost everywhere, because Pix moves them in seconds, so the choice comes down to price and to who holds your money.

Price is where most people overpay. The quick-buy button in many apps quotes a price with a markup built in, while the same platform's order book, its livro de ofertas, charges a small stated fee. The other trap is the company behind the brand. Some global names still sign Brazilians up through a company abroad, which also changes how your holdings are taxed and where a dispute ends up.

All ten take reais from Brazilian customers, and seven sign you up through a Brazilian company. The three that use a company abroad are held to 4.0. Bitcoin's real cost, each company's standing with the central bank, security and how reais move set the order, so it differs from our worldwide ranking. Source arrows sit beside each fee and clause, and a review of every platform follows the table.

Score: the six checks below add up to a mark out of 10, weighted for a Pix user in Brazil who holds coins on the platform. Whoever tops the table is rescaled to 9.0, and the same multiplier applies all the way down. A platform that signs Brazilians up through a company abroad can't go above 4.0. The six marks behind any score appear when your cursor rests on it. Fees: what a new account pays per trade, on the BTC/BRL market where one exists. App prices and a platform's markup count in the cost check. Places here aren't for sale. The order can't know your own situation, so take it as general information, and see how we're funded.

The cheapest crypto exchanges in Brazil

The cheapest R$1,000 of Bitcoin came from Binance's book, at R$1.00 over the market price. Mercado Bitcoin PRO charged R$6.64 for the same purchase. The median BTC/BRL midpoint set the market price at R$419,680 a Bitcoin. A bar adds the platform's fee to the gap between its price and the market's.

Nubank, Kraken and Coinbase keep their BRL price behind a login, so no bar can be drawn for them. For scoring they take the costliest result among the books, from Mercado Bitcoin PRO, or their own published fee if that's higher.

FeePrice above the marketMarket price: median of the BTC/BRL order books

Of the ten, seven run a BTC/BRL order book, so you can see the price before you pay. The quick-buy screens are a different story. Mercado Bitcoin's charges 0.7% to 3% plus a spread of up to 2%, and Nubank's spread alone can reach 3.5%.

Depth matters once orders grow. On depth, Foxbit came first and Bybit last: R$825k against R$17k of Bitcoin offered within 0.5% of the market. A big order on a shallow book pushes its own price up, as the R$50k button shows.

How we score Brazilian exchanges

We read every Brazilian fee page and every set of terms shown outside Brazil ourselves, checked each company's own statement on its central bank filing, and took every BRL price in one snapshot on 13 Oct 2026. Six checks with fixed rules set the order.

CheckWeightHow it is marked
Cost to buy20%The yardstick is the median mid-price across Brazil's public BTC/BRL books, swept together on 13 Oct 2026. Each platform's mark comes from buying R$1,000 of Bitcoin the cheapest way it publishes, trading fee and all, measured against that yardstick. Every 0.1% above a 0.2% allowance costs 0.8 of the 10 marks. A platform that hides its BRL price until you log in is charged the day's steepest result, or its own published fee where steeper.
Brazilian regulation25%Who you contract with carries 5 marks when it's a Brazilian company stating on its own site that it has filed with the Banco Central do Brasil or operates under the transition regime, and 3 when it's Brazilian but hasn't said it has filed. Two more go to a group that already runs a central bank licensed bank, broker or payment firm. The final 3 reflect five years of dealings with the CVM and the central bank: an order with no penalty halves them, and a penalty or paid settlement wipes them out.
Security and reserves20%Security is marked exactly as on our worldwide list. Reserves are worth up to 4, all of them for a proof where you can find your own balance that an outside auditor or a zero-knowledge check backs, or for SEC-audited accounts from the platform or its parent. Three go to a lookup nobody independent backs, as at Bitget, or to an auditor's reserve check without a lookup, and two to an accountant's attestation. A loss fund is worth 1, or 2 with its size disclosed. The last 4 hang on the record since October 2021, where a costly hack or collapse takes 3 (only 1 once everyone was repaid), and a data breach, a regulator's action and each market failure (2 at most) take 1 apiece.
Liquidity10%This check reads only the platform's own BTC/BRL book in the 13 Oct 2026 snapshot, counting in reais the Bitcoin offered within 0.5% of the market. Marks start at R$10,000, where a book earns nothing, and top out at R$10 million, so every tenfold rise in depth adds a third of the 10. Coinbase, Nubank and Kraken run no public BTC/BRL book, so they get none.
BRL deposits and withdrawals15%Free Pix deposits score 4, and Pix with a fee, or with no fee published, scores 1. TED, a card or a boleto as a second way in adds 1. Keeping your balance in reais, without converting it the moment it lands, adds 1. Returning reais to your bank free of charge brings 2, and two years with no bank or payment partner dropping the platform bring 2 more.
Product10%A list of 300 coins is worth 3, of 100 coins 2 and of 30 coins 1. Running a public BTC/BRL market and opening company accounts bring 2 apiece. Staking, an OTC desk and sending coins out to a wallet you hold make up the last 3.

Two ceilings apply after the marks are added up. A platform that signs Brazilians up through a company abroad stops at 4.0, since the central bank's rules require foreign companies to hand their Brazilian clients to a Brazilian one. A CVM or central bank penalty in the last two years stops a score at 7.5, and a hack in the past year with customers not yet repaid at 6.0.

We read each fee page, filing statement and set of terms we could open on 14 Oct 2026. We go over it all again by mid-January, or straight after the 30 October deadline if the filings change.

How Brazilian exchanges are scored: regulation 25%, cost to buy 20%, security 20%, BRL banking 15%, liquidity 10% and product 10%. The company you sign with earns 5 marks if it is Brazilian and says it has filed or works under the transition rules (Mercado Bitcoin, Nubank), 3 if it is Brazilian and hasn't said it has filed (Binance, OKX, Bybit, Kraken, and Foxbit, which says it will file in time), and a company abroad holds the score to 4.0 (Bitget, Coinbase, MEXC). A group holding a central bank licence adds 2, a clean CVM and central bank record 3, and a penalty in two years caps the score at 7.5

How to buy crypto in Brazil

Have your CPF, a photo document and a bank account in your own name ready before you sign up. Every platform here sends reais back only to an account under the same CPF.

  1. Find the company behind the app: It appears in the first lines of the terms of use. A Brazilian one has a CNPJ, and the central bank's rules require foreign companies to move Brazilian clients to one.
  2. Send reais by Pix from your own account: Pix in someone else's name gets bounced. Foxbit returns a third party's deposit after five business days, and OKX can take up to 15 days to return a TED.
  3. Buy on the order book: Look for the screen called PRO, Spot or Advanced, place a limit or market order on BTC/BRL, and pay only the stated fee.
  4. Expect a short risk questionnaire: Platforms now have to learn how much you know about crypto and how much risk you accept. Binance gives existing customers 30 days to answer four questions.
  5. Keep your statements: You need each purchase's cost in reais to work out any tax when you sell.

Is crypto regulated in Brazil?

Yes. A 2022 law put crypto platforms under federal rules, and a 2023 decree made the Banco Central do Brasil their regulator. The CVM still covers tokens that work like securities, and consumer law still applies.

The central bank's detailed rules, Resolution BCB 520, took effect on 2 February 2026. Platforms already operating then had 270 days to apply, which the application rules fix at 30 October 2026. Filing on time lets a platform go on serving Brazilians until the central bank decides. Those that don't must stop within 30 days.

Companies based abroad must move their Brazilian clients to a Brazilian company in the same window, which is why Binance is moving every Brazilian account to two local companies. From 6 November 2026, banks and payment institutions may no longer handle crypto business for platforms the central bank hasn't authorised, under a rule change of 23 September 2026.

No platform on this page has been authorised as a crypto company yet. Mercado Bitcoin says it is in the process, Nubank's crypto company says it works under the transition rules, and Foxbit says it will file in time. The others haven't said whether they have filed. Bitso and NovaDAX chose to wind down their Brazilian retail business instead.

The deadline: platforms already open must apply by 30 October 2026 and can keep serving customers while they wait, or stop within 30 days. From 6 November banks and payment firms may not handle crypto business for unauthorised platforms. Binance closes eight products on 27 October and moves accounts to Brazilian companies by 29 October, Crypto.com closes its BRL account on 25 October, and Bitso closes its direct retail service by 30 October

Where complaints go

Start with the platform's support, in writing. A March 2026 rule change requires crypto companies with individual customers to run an ouvidoria, an internal ombudsman that must answer within ten business days. Mercado Bitcoin and Nubank already publish theirs.

Brazil's consumer code covers you against a Brazilian company, and a Procon or a court near you can hear the case. Of the ten, only Nubank is on consumidor.gov.br, the government's complaints site. Some terms send a dispute to arbitration in Hong Kong all the same: OKX's, even though a Brazilian company signs you up, and those of Bitget and MEXC, which serve you from abroad.

Is your crypto safe on a Brazilian exchange?

Crypto isn't covered by the FGC, the fund that repays bank deposits, and no fund repays you if a platform fails. What the new rules add is a duty to keep your coins and reais apart from the company's own.

Resolution BCB 520 makes platforms hold customers' reais in accounts in each customer's name, keep their coins in separate wallets, and never use customers' assets for their own business. It also asks for an independent audit every two years and proof of reserves sent to the central bank. Those duties bite fully once a platform's application is approved.

Brazil has seen what happens without them. The CVM fined Atlas Quantum and its owner more than R$55.8 million in 2024, five years after customers stopped being able to withdraw. A federal court in Campina Grande sentenced the couple behind Braiscompany to 88 and 61 years.

What Resolution BCB 520 makes platforms do: keep the platform's own money and coins apart from customers'. Your reais sit in an account in your name and are paid back only to your own CPF. Your coins sit in separate wallets, are never used for the platform's business, with an audit every two years and proof of reserves sent to the central bank. There is no FGC cover, and the CVM fined Atlas Quantum and its owner more than R$55.8 million five years after withdrawals stopped

What each platform's terms cap

Each set of terms also limits what you can recover when the platform itself is at fault.

PlatformThe most its terms let you claim
Mercado BitcoinNo money cap. Its terms keep the consumer code's protections.
FoxbitA year of the fees you paid it.
BitgetYour last three months of fees.
OKXWhichever is smaller: the assets in dispute or everything in your account.

OKX's terms go further and mix your coins with other customers'. Nubank's let its crypto company stake the coins it holds for you, whether or not you sign up for staking rewards.

A reserve proof is meant to show that the coins customers bought really sit in the platform's wallets. Binance, OKX, Bybit, Bitget, MEXC and Kraken each publish one in which you can find your own balance, and only Bitget's has neither an outside auditor nor a zero-knowledge check behind it. Coinbase and Nubank's parent, Nu Holdings, file audited accounts with the SEC instead. Neither Mercado Bitcoin nor Foxbit publishes either.

Not investment advice

This page is general information. Nothing on it is a recommendation to buy, sell or trade any crypto asset or to use any platform. Crypto prices can fall sharply. See our affiliate disclosure for how the site is funded.

Pix limits for buying crypto in Brazil

Pix is how almost everyone pays for crypto in Brazil, and its limits are set by your bank. A few central bank rules decide how far they can go.

  • The night limit: The R$1,000 cap between 8pm and 6am applies between two individuals, so a platform's company account sits outside it. Your bank may still apply its own limit.
  • Raising a limit: When you ask your bank for a higher limit, the same rule gives it at least 24 hours to apply the change.
  • New phones: Since November 2024, devices never used for Pix face a lower limit until registered with your bank.

If a scammer tricks you into a Pix, the special return mechanism (MED) lets your bank try to claw it back. You must ask within 80 days, and the same day is best. Since February 2026 every bank must run the updated MED, which can block the money in more than one account. It can't undo a Pix you sent to your own exchange account.

Crypto tax in Brazil

Profits from selling crypto are taxed as capital gains, and the rules differ depending on whether a Brazilian platform holds your coins.

If everything you sell in a month adds up to R$35,000 or less, there's no tax on the gain. Above that, the gain is taxed at 15% on the first R$5 million, rising in steps to 22.5%. The Receita Federal's free GCAP program works out what you owe and prints the DARF to pay it.

Crypto held or traded through a company abroad counts as an investment abroad. Its gains go in your annual return at a flat 15%, under a separate law from the monthly rules above. So Bitget, MEXC and Coinbase, which serve you from abroad, change your tax as well as your protections.

In your annual return, list each type of crypto whose purchase cost reached R$5,000, at what you paid. Since July 2026 platforms report every trade under DeCripto, the Receita's system built on the OECD standard. A 2025 plan for a flat 17.5% rate lapsed before Congress voted on it.

Crypto tax in Brazil: through a Brazilian platform, months when your sales total R$35,000 or less carry no tax on the gain, and above that the gain is taxed from 15%, rising in steps to 22.5%. Through a company abroad, gains are taxed at a flat 15% in your annual return. List each type of crypto once its purchase cost reaches R$5,000, and platforms report every trade under DeCripto since July 2026

Crypto ETFs in Brazil

You can also hold crypto through a fund on the stock exchange, in an ordinary brokerage account. B3 now lists more than 40 crypto ETFs.

Their tax works like shares, without the shares' small-sale exemption: 15% on gains, or 20% on day trades, which you pay yourself by DARF. The fund holds the coins, so you never deal with a crypto platform or a wallet.

How to withdraw crypto to your own wallet

Every platform here will send your coins to a private wallet. Once there, they survive a platform's collapse, though nobody can restore a lost seed phrase.

Expect extra questions on the way out. Under Resolution BCB 521, a platform must identify who owns the private wallet you send to and check where the coins are going. Foxbit charges 0.00002 BTC to send Bitcoin out, and Mercado Bitcoin 0.00003 BTC.

Brazil's biggest crypto losses came from schemes promising a fixed monthly return. The CVM fined GAS Consultoria, the "Faraó dos Bitcoins" scheme, and its founders R$34 million each for selling unregistered investments.

  • Guaranteed monthly returns: The CVM warns about offers of 10%, 20% or even 60% a month. No real investment promises that.
  • A "trading robot" or account manager: Someone else trading for you on a site you've never heard of is how most of these schemes start.
  • A Pix to a person: A real platform takes your reais into its company account. A Pix to an individual's key is not a deposit.

If you've been caught, ask your bank to start a MED right away, file a police report online with your state's Polícia Civil, and report the offer to the CVM.
