TVL is the chain figure: value deposited in the chain's own protocols. A dash is "not reported", not zero: Bitcoin has no stablecoin float, and some chains report no fees. Volume is spot DEXs over 24h; fees are what users paid the chain and its apps over 24h.

About this data

Updated Sep 2026

Figures are shown as the source publishes them, and anything we calculate is explained below. How the data is made Report an error General information, not financial advice.

What TVL measures, and what it misses

Total value locked is the sum of everything deposited into a chain's DeFi protocols: lending markets, DEX pools, staking contracts. It is the best single reading of where capital actually commits itself on-chain, which is why every allocator watches it, and it moves for two reasons that look identical on a chart: deposits change, or the price of what is deposited changes. A chain full of ETH sees its TVL fall a third in an ETH drawdown without a single withdrawal.

That is why the table carries more than TVL. Stablecoin float is the dollar-denominated capital that does not reprice with the market, DEX volume is whether anyone actually trades there, and fees are the only number on the page that users provably paid rather than parked.

How to read the table

Rank by TVL is the default and the least interesting sort. The columns worth clicking are the ones that disagree with it: a chain with high TVL and thin fees is parked capital farming something; a chain with modest TVL and heavy volume is being used rather than held. The 30-day trend column shows the shape of the move, not just its size, and the stablecoin column is the patient money.

What this cannot tell you

  • TVL is not users: One whale in one vault reads the same as a hundred thousand depositors. Pair it with fees and volume before concluding a chain is alive.
  • TVL can be manufactured: Incentive programmes rent deposits, and rented capital leaves when the incentives do. A TVL spike that arrives with an emissions programme is a promotion, not adoption.
  • Double counting exists: A token deposited into a protocol that wraps it into another protocol can be counted in both. The figure nets this out where it can, but it is an estimate, not an audit.
  • Bridged value is a claim on another chain: Value bridged into a chain still lives, ultimately, on the chain it came from, with the bridge as counterparty.
  • Fees are not profit: They are what users paid, which says demand exists; it says nothing about what it cost to serve.

Not investment advice

Alpha Finance is not a licensed adviser and nothing on this page is a recommendation to buy, hold or use any chain or token. Every figure is only as current as the timestamp beside it, and every figure is an estimate by its source.

Questions

Why do these numbers differ from other sites?

Same source, different cut. This page shows live figures for the top fifty chains with the columns we consider decision-relevant. Other sites apply their own filters, groupings and double-count toggles, so headline figures can differ by a few percent depending on settings.

Why is Ethereum's share so large?

Because TVL measures parked capital, and Ethereum is where the deepest, oldest DeFi lives: the largest lending markets, the liquid-staking complex and most of the stablecoin float. Chains with more daily activity can still hold a fraction of its deposits.

What counts as a chain's fees?

Everything users paid on that chain in 24 hours: base-layer transaction fees plus fees paid into the chain's applications. It is a demand reading. It is not revenue to the chain's token holders, and it is not profit to anyone.

Why does a chain show a dash instead of a number?

The source does not report that figure for that chain. Bitcoin has no stablecoin float to report, and several chains do not report fee or DEX data. A dash means "not reported"; printing a zero would be a claim the data does not make.

How current are these numbers?

Every figure is refreshed when the page loads and every five minutes after that while it stays open. The header shows when the numbers were last updated.
